Derek’s story is the true definition of growing from the ground up. Starting as a field carpenter at Suntec back in 1990, he rose through the ranks to become a partner, Vice President, and ultimately President and CEO.

Under his vision and leadership, Suntec has grown into a regional powerhouse:

• Footprint: Expanded operations to include Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, and New Mexico.

• Workforce: Grown to nearly 2,500 dedicated employee-owners.

• Revenue: Scaled to nearly $1 billion annually, solidifying Suntec’s standing as one of the top specialty contractors in the nation.

• 100% employee-owned: Shifted the business model to hand company ownership over to the employees

Beyond expanding our commercial concrete footprint, Derek’s impact is defined by his commitment to people, community, and the construction industry as a whole. As a past chairman of the Arizona Builders Alliance (ABA), he continues to spearhead industry progress and foster the next generation of trade leaders.
